Optimized printing in mainframe environments

Extended connectivity between Océ PRISMAproduction Server and Levi, Ray & Shoup’s VPS software

Poing, Germany, 12 January 2006—Océ and Levi, Ray & Shoup (LRS) have signed an agreement for co-selling a connectivity solution combining Océ’s PRISMAproduction Server and LRS’ mainframe software VPS/AnyQueue. The strategic partnership offers our customers a bridge between the hitherto separate worlds of distributed and high volume printing from mainframes. Data centre operators are now in a position to handle mainframe-related jobs more efficiently and thus significantly increase a company’s workflow productivity. The joint solution is generally available and already featuring in installations in Germany, Spain and the US.

Enhanced productivity for mainframe environments

Developed to deliver MVS mainframe output to printers outside data centres, VPS software has over the years evolved into a solution for delivering documents to a wide variety of destinations. VPS now brings access to a broad range of Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) support offered with Océ PRISMAproduction Server. Using this combined solution, mainframe data can be processed in both Intelligent Print Data Stream (IPDS) and non-IPDS formats. VPS customers can now forward their AFP data to their Océ PRISMA server where the client module of LRS AnyQueue is installed. Data is automatically and directly submitted to Océ PRISMAproduction Server queue and is ready for printing. All standard AnyQueue features, such as compression, encryption and resource packing are supported.

“As a world-leading provider of integrated workflow solutions we see tremendous benefit in partnering with an organization who is a market leader in managing mainframe environments”, says Konrad Sommer, Océ’s Vice President Software/Professional Services. “With LRS we have an ideal partner for joining forces to offer our common customers a powerful and versatile document management solution. In addition, this partnership further emphasizes our strength in supporting our customers’ mainframe environments. Our combined solution, thanks to its powerful capacities in terms of handling, processing and printing mainframe-related data, clearly offers a lot more added value to typical IBM users than their current solutions.

“LRS customers demand best of breed solutions because they understand how unreliable or inefficient production printing workflow can affect critical business processes,” says John Howerter, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing at LRS. “That’s why many of our customers are already using Océ printers for their high-volume printing. The integration of our AnyQueue solution with Océ PRISMAProduction Server gives organizations a single point of control for managing all of their application output, whether it is going to an email recipient, a desktop device, or a high speed Océ printer.”

Océ PRISMAproduction Server

Océ PRISMAproduction Server—one of Océ’s core platforms—is a high performance output management system for the corporate and commercial market segments. It can handle any transactional printing and on-demand application for monochrome and Océ CustomTone printing, and processes virtually any standard input PDL. The main output focus is on high speed IPDS devices. Additional backends also allow the server to drive non-IPDS devices in specific environments.
