Océ CS665 Pro certified by Fogra

Venlo, The Netherlands, 15 January 2009 – Océ Technologies and EFI today announced that Fogra has certified the Océ CS665 Pro with EFI Fiery controller, EFI Color Profiler Suite and Océ Proofing Paper as a Validation Printing System. The digital color production system fulfills the requirements of the brand-new FograCert certification based on ISO/CD 12647-7. The certification verifies that the Océ CS665 Pro prints with predictable, consistent and measurable quality according to set standards.

Guaranteed quality results for print providers and their customers

“The certification of this latest Océ system is great news for print providers and their customers,” says Dirk Van Thillo, International Marketing Director Color Production Systems at Océ. “It proves that Océ products continue to deliver consistent quality production according to very strict standards.”

“Fogra’s certification of the Océ CS665 Pro with our EFI Fiery controller is a milestone achievement in the long-standing and close partnership between Océ and EF,” says EFI’s Senior Director of Worldwide OEM Sales, Charles Lissenburg. “It is proof of the technology leadership of both companies that we are the first to achieve Fogra certification, so printers everywhere can print with predictable and measurable quality according to set standards, a promise no other controller can offer to date. EFI’s Fiery was also the first to successfully pass the Altona and Ghent test suites. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with Océ to better serve our customers’ needs.”

Driven by EFI technology as Validation Printing System

The new Fogra certification “Validation Printing System” certifies that the following criteria were met: proofing substrate color and gloss, permanence and light fastness, fading, rub resistance, color accuracy, tone value reproduction limits, image register and resolving power, colorimetrical tone value reproduction, homogeneity, consistency, margin information and PDF/X conformance. ISO-12647 sets measurable process standard criteria for different printing processes, such as sheet and web offset printing, coldset printing (newsprint), rotogravure, screen, flexographic printing and digital printing (focusing on proofing).

“In light of the incorporation of the so-called ’Validation Prints’ the international standard ISO 12647-7 for high quality contract proofing is currently under revision and will be published soon within a  separate part 8. So one can easily differentiate between ISO 12647-7 for contract proofing and ISO 12647-8 for validation prints,” says Andreas Kraushaar. He is convenor of working group 3 (WG 3: process control and related metrology) of the Graphic Technology Committee TC130 within ISO and head of the prepress department at Fogra. “As we worked to define the standard requirements that best
matched the future ISO norm we appreciated the extensive testing and quality measurements from manufactures such as Océ and EFI. The Fogra Validation Print certification will benefit print producers and print buyers.”
